Home Studio
Lessons are currently available for all ages and abilitiy levels (beginner to advanced) on piano or lever harp and pedal harp. Mrs. Bennett currently has students ranging in ages from 5-80.
Lessons occur weekly and last for 30, 45 or 60 minutes. The lesson schedule follows the academic calendar and runs for about 38 weeks. Summer lessons are also available.
Students in perform in an annual spring recital at Chandler Recital Hall, Old Dominion University, Norfolk, VA..
Students have the opportunity to perform in several events throughout the year. These include (but are not limited to) VMTA Festival (Hymn and Classical), TMTF(Tidewater Music Teacher's Forum) Levels of Progress, Peninsula Music Teacher's Association, VBODA All City, Regional, and State Ensembles, Bland Music Competition, Lion's Club scholarship auditions as well as performances at nursing homes, churches, and community centers. Also local chapter of the American Harp Society's annual evaluation performance.
"Performance Class"" at my studio is great way to be prepared to perform in the public which will be announced each time.
There are several studio instruments available for use at private lessons. These include a Yamaha baby grand piano, Yamaha weighted Digital keyboard.
Lyon and Healy Troubadour lever harp, Three different styles of pedal harps: Lyon & Healy 23 gold concert grand harp, Lyon & Healy 17 gold semi concert grand harp and 44 stringed Lyon & Healy Grand Petite Harp. There are also several Lyon and Healy lever harps available for rent. Please contact me for more information on availability.
Tuition: as of January 2009
Tuition rates vary per instrument. Tuition is due monthly at the first lesson of each month.
Piano
30 minutes: $30.00/week - $120 per month
45 minutes: $40.00/week - $160 per month
60 minutes: $50.00/week - $200 per month
Harp
30 minutes: $35.00/week - $140 per month
45 minutes: $45.00/week - $180 per month
60 minutes: $60.00/week - $240 per month
There is a $25.00 late fee if lesson payment is received after the 10th of the month. There is a $25.00 returned check fee.
September through May there are no makeup lessons unless if teacher misses the lesson, or must reschedule you due to her professional performance engagements, music teacher's meeting or student's family emergency, contagious illness for at least 24 hours advance notice.
Old Dominion University
Ms. Bennett is an adjunct associate professor at Old Dominion University. Students are encouraged to take harp lessons as part of their college curriculum in major and alos in minor. ODU owns Four Lyon and Healy Troubadour lever harps and a Salvi Diana concert grand pedal harp that are available for student use.
Old Dominion University also offers a Harp Group Class under the direction of Hye-Yun Chung Bennett.
Community Music Division
Harp classes are also available through the Community Music Division which is continuing education program of Old Dominion University. The CMD welcomes students of all ages. No experience required.
