Studio Policy

Calendar:
-The lesson year follows the academic calendar and runs from September through June.  38 lessons will be given during the year.
-Lessons are optional during the summer but encouraged for serious students.
-Summer lessons are beneficial to all students and keep them from having to do remedial work in the fall.

Tuition Fees:   As of January 2009
-Tuition rates vary per instrument.  Tuition is due monthly at the first lesson of the month.

Piano
30 minutes: $30.00/week
45 minutes: $40.00/week
60 minutes: $50.00/week

Harp
30 minutes: $35.00/week
45 minutes: $45.00/week
60 minutes: $60.00/week


Payment Information:
-Payment must be paid in advance.
-Tuition payments are due at the first lesson of each month.
-After the first student, there is a 5% family discount offered to additional family members
-There is returned check fee of $25.00.
-Payment that is not paid by the 10th day of each month will be subject to a $25 late fee.
-Students taking lessons only once or twice a month will be charged extra $5 each lesson in addition to the regular fee.
-Additional $10 for each lesson for  traveling to the location

Lesson Attendance:
-Regular attendance is necessary in order to improve.
-Under most circumstances, in the event that you need to cancel a lesson, I require at least 24 hours notice or the lesson will not be made up and you will not receive a refund for the missed lesson.
-You may contact me by phone at 757- 676-1048 and leave a message on my voicemail.
-I understand that occasionally circumstances are beyond your control, but please try to keep missed lessons to a minimum.
-Acceptable excuses are illness, family emergencies, inclement of weather, etc.
-Not practicing is not an acceptable excuse.
-More than three unexcused absences can result in termination of lessons


General Studio Rules:
-There are several studio instruments available for use at lessons.  These include a Yamaha  grand piano, Yamaha weighted full size keyboard, Lyon & Healy Troubadour lever harp, Lyon & Healy style 23 gold concert grand harp, Lyon & Healy gold semi grand style 17 harp and Lyon & Healy 44 stringed grand petit pedal harp.  There are also several Lyon and Healy lever harps available for rent.  Please contact me for more information on availability.

-Please make sure fingernails are neatly trimmed for lessons.  Playing the harp or piano is very difficult and not practical with long nails.
-Please do not bring food or drink (water is acceptable) into the studio.
-If parents do not attend lessons, students should be dropped off on time and picked up promptly at the end of the lesson.
-Siblings and children are welcome at lessons provided that they are of the age to entertain themselves
      quietly.
-As a private music teacher, I take my position very seriously and professionally since teaching is my livelihood and also my passion. 


What to Bring to Your Lesson:
Harpists and Pianists:
-All assigned music
-Lesson Notebook
-A Smile and a Good Attitude


Practice:
-DAILY PRACTICE is strongly encouraged.
-Beginning students should practice 15-30 minutes each day.
-Intermediate to advanced students should spend 30-60 minutes at the harp or piano each day.
-High School students interested in pursuing musical studies in college are required to practice at least 60 minutes a day, 5 days a week.
-These are minimums and may be increased provided that you do not stress or injure your hands.
-Practice is absolutely necessary for success.


Termination of Lessons:
-Four week's notice of termination is required for a refund.
-I reserve the right to terminate lessons if the student:
-has three or more late payments
-demonstrates insufficient practice on a consistent basis
-has three or more unexcused absences per year
